Quayclean shares CovidSafe Plan for 2021 Sydney Royal Easter Show

With the 2021 Sydney Royal Easter Show set to employ enhanced hygiene and safety protocols, Quayclean Australia has advised that it will deploy over 400 cleaning staff, including 120 workers for regular rotational touchpoint cleaning, to keep Show attendees COVIDSafe when the Show.

With the Show set to open this Thursday (1st April) at the Sydney Showgrounds, as part of its detailed operational plan, Quayclean cleaning staff will be split into 10 designated zones where they will be responsible for waste, cleaning, hygiene, disinfection and decontaminating services throughout the Show.

The strategy is part of Quayclean’s overarching ‘Clean, Kill and Maintain’ regime planned for the Show.

With up to 60,000 attendees visiting the Sydney Showgrounds site each day during the 12-day event, Quayclean Chief Executive Mark Piwkowski said the Show will be the company’s single-biggest event in consecutive days at one location since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic 12 months ago.

Piwkowski advised “we have been working closely with the Show organisers, the Royal Agriculture Society of NSW, to detail the measures we will put in place to keep attendees, exhibitors and staff free from infection throughout the Show.

“In particular, 120 cleaners will be specifically dedicated to regularly service high traffic public areas such as handrails, door handles, taps, lift buttons and toilets.

“All staff have completed, and are certified in, the Government recommended Infection Control Training program and we only use Therapeutic Goods of Australia (TGA) hospital-grade cleaning and disinfectant products.”

Piwkowski said his staff will draw on experience gained at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, plus cricket Test matches and back-to-back football games when managing the Easter Show site, adding “the Easter Show will be our biggest 24/7 event since the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games where we managed cleaning and presentation services for 12 Games competition venues over a 12-day period.

“Last year, we were responsible for cleaning and hygiene services for over 120 AFL fixtures, including 78 games played in the Queensland ‘bubble’ at the Gabba and Metricon Stadium.

“More recently, we managed services for the cricket Tests played between Australia and India at the SCG, Adelaide Oval and the Gabba where the work of our staff was praised by Queensland Health officials.”

Piwkowski urged attendees to maintain good personal safety hygienic measures, such as regular hand-washing, and not attend the Show if they feel unwell, concluding “while community instances of COVID 19 remain low, we cannot become complacent.”
